Meet Our Team

Sandro Dorsainvil

Founder & Director - El Roi Academy

Sandro grew up in the Citè Soleil area, a community in Port-au-Prince known for its poverty and violence. Like most of his neighbors, his single mother fought an uphill battle to provide food, housing, and school tuition for her kids. Sandro remembers going months living on sugar water and dry bread that his mother borrowed from the neighbors because there was no money for anything else. He also recalls moving from school to school when the tuition bill couldn’t be paid, then hiding from people who came to collect the fees his mom owed. The situation was bleak, there was a very real threat that Sandro and his siblings would be sent to an orphanage because his mother couldn’t provide. This motivated Sandro to do all he could to get an education. For him, the only solution was a public school five miles away that was known for its gang violence. Amidst his mom’s concern, he diligently spent three years of study there and knows that God used that time to make him stronger.

Sandro didn’t only rely on Haiti’s education system, he was always keen to learn whatever he could. By his 8th and 9th grade years, he had taught himself English and Spanish through a broken cassette player. Others saw his skill, and he was given several translating jobs in Haiti, including a translating job by an adoption agency. One of the couples he worked with lived in a small town in Montana that had a boarding school for international students. They invited Sandro to finish his senior year in the States at Lustre Christian High School. Sandro was skeptical at first but bravely agreed. Through hard work and determination, he earned his high school diploma in the spring of 2014.

Sandro pursued further studies at Liberty University, where he graduated in 2018 with a dual degree in Developmental Psychology & Biblical Counseling.  He believes that the hope of Haiti rests in Jesus’ work in the future generation. Sandro is passionate about his work as director of El Roi Academy and additional El Roi Ministries.

We are grateful that God gives Sandro eyes to see and ears to hear of needs around him in a way that he continuously and creatively seeks ways to practically meet these needs as Jesus would.

Alix Dorsainvil

Community Health Nurse

A native of New Hampshire, Alix has always had a deep love for people. Even as a child she was able to see needs around her and was moved to action whether it was making sandwiches for the homeless or volunteering at an after-school program in a low-income neighborhood near where she lived. She attended Cornerstone Christian Academy where her love of missions was born. As missionaries would come and share their stories God would tug on her heart and whisper in her ear calling her into this service. This calling led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Regis College as she felt this would be a valuable tool on the mission field. Alix also taught herself Haitian Creole during this time. While in college she took her first trip to Haiti by herself where she worked at an orphanage for two weeks. After she graduated Alix returned to the same orphanage and spent 6 months there. She returned to the US and got a job working at a hospital as a nurse, saving her money and vacation time to then return to Haiti. In 2017 Alix returned to Haiti to again work with an organization that focused on family preservation, also doing street ministry where she would provide basic medical care to homeless Haitians who would become not just patients but friends. In 2019 Alix ended her nursing job in the US and moved to Haiti indefinitely. Alix first met Sandro in 2014 but reconnected in 2019 and became good friends as they were both serving the people of Haiti. In 2020 Alix moved to our community and became a part of the El Roi Haiti ministry as the school and community health nurse. Sandro and Alix’s friendship continued to develop and they were married in 2021 on the El Roi Haiti school campus. God has given Alix many gifts that she faithfully administers with grace to everyone she is around - we are so thankful to have her as a part of our El Roi Haiti team.

1 Peter 4:10 “Each of us should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
